Positive Plan of Action

  1. Neighborhood Stabilization
    • repair streets and sidewalks
    • create a pipeline to home ownership to find good owners for District 1 vacant homes
    • prioritize the repair and rehabbing of homes instead of demolition
    • work with all municipalities in the district and neighborhood associations to revitalize and stabilize neighborhoods
    • establish a working relationship with a non-profit organization to take in the homeless and get them off the streets
  2. Quality Policing and Crime Prevention
    • continue professional education, diversity, and sensitivity training of officers
    • implement ShotSpotter technology to rapidly respond to the discharge of firearms
    • work for greater cooperation between those in the community, city halls, police departments, and the county police
    • work on addressing the root causes of crime, discouraging gang activity, getting drugs and guns off of our streets
  3. Economic Development
    • work with existing businesses to promote and grow their businesses
    • create a community-wide economic development assessment to help target the types of businesses needed in the community
    • work to promote District 1 to more national corporations to help strengthen the local economy
    • establish innovation incubator and help establish micro-loan program for small business start-ups.
  4. Quality of Life
    • continue support for services for seniors
    • high quality, accessible food options
    • promote neighborhood clinic access and work to keep our county clinics open and health services fully funded
    • support early childhood development
  5. Helping Our Youth
    • establish programs to help young people transition to work
    • continue to promote recreational activities for our youth
    • provide mental health services for those struggling with depression or other issues
